Video transcript

Daniel Donahoo (digital learning adviser): There are so many sites out there about settings and time allocation and how to control and manage technology. However, really keeping children safe online is about having someone to turn to when things go wrong. We’ll never be able to control and manage the internet to keep our children 100% safe.

What’s really important is to build a trusting relationship with our children around their technology use so that, if something does happen online, if they see something that’s scary on a video or if they’re having contact or someone’s saying something to them that they’re not sure about, that they can come to us, and we help them by not responding with anger, by not threatening to take away their technology, but actually looking at the problem, at where it is, and helping them to solve that problem and make sure that they know that they can come to us if they have any of those problems.
