Video transcript

Sonia (mother of Layla and Aisha): So we’ve finished marinating the chicken. We’ve got the garlic and the lemon. Put that into the fridge. And now we can start our vegies. We’re going to use potato, what else? Carrots?

Layla: Carrots.

Aisha: Carrots.

Sonia: Corn.

Layla: Corn.

Aisha: Corn.

Sonia: And maybe peas? We’ll use peas.

Aisha: I don’t like peas.

Sonia: Well, you need to try them. How about we try them? Now Aisha, I’ll get you to start with the corn. So that’s right from there. You’re right. And then you go all the way. You’ve got to rip it all the way. Good girl.

We’re going to roast the potatoes and the carrots and then we’ll boil the corn. Let me do this one then you can start. We’ll do that one. Well done, Layla.

And because I’ve bought some extra, we’re going to take some for lunch tomorrow so we’re going to pack our own lunch boxes now for tomorrow. We’ve got extra carrots so we can use some. We can have some carrot sticks. I’ve got mine. There’s Layla’s. And there’s yours. Here’s a trick to corn.

Layla: One …

Sonia: So how many corn are there?

Aisha: We haven’t counted yet.

Layla and Aisha: 8, 9.

Aisha: And 10.

Layla: 10.

Sonia: So how many pieces do we need for dinner?

Aisha: 5.

Layla: 5.

Sonia: And then these spare ones we can use them for …

Layla: Lunch box.

Sonia: Our lunch boxes. That’s right. 9, 10. Now Aisha, come and cut the carrots for me.

Aisha: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. 7 carrots.

Sonia: 7 carrots. And what are we going to do with the carrots now?

Aisha: Put them in the tray.

Sonia: Yeah. And we’re going to chop them up first. Now how many potatoes do we have?

Layla: 4.

Sonia: Yeah. And we’ll use 3.

Aisha: 1 …

Sonia: Because we’ll make a small potato salad.

Aisha: 2, 3, 4.

Sonia: So we’ll use 3.

Aisha: Do you want me to put them in there?

Sonia: Yeah, put into the baking dish. Well done. I think some broccoli will be nice. We’ll grab some broccoli.

Aisha: Yummy broccoli.

Sonia: So what we’ll do is, you can place them nicely. Lovely. So we’re going to check on the corn, we’re going to put into the baking dish. Carefully because it’s very, very hot. Grab the plate carefully.

Layla: It looks great.

Sonia: So one for you. And one for Layla. And one for myself. And then you can just put the corn into the roasting dish and, Aisha, you can carefully take that and put it into the fridge and that’s for our lunch tomorrow. And which is your favourite?

Aisha: Corn.

Layla: Broccoli

Sonia: Broccoli? And corn? Grab the baking dish carefully. Well done.
