Setting up for telehealth appointments
Set up for the appointment somewhere quiet where you won’t be interrupted. Make sure everyone can see and hear each other.
Gather everything you need – reports, photos or video. Have a notepad and pen handy, so you can write down what the health professional says.
Preparing children for telehealth appointments
Talk with your child about what to expect. Tell your child they’ll be meeting a health professional, and explain why.
Talk with older children about whether they want you to be at the appointment.
Getting the most out of telehealth appointments
At the start, say what you want to get out of the appointment. It’s OK to ask questions. At the end, make sure you know what will happen next.
Write down the key things that the health professional says, or ask a support person to do this for you.
Tell the health professional if you’re having technical problems. If you lose the connection, try to reconnect. If that doesn’t work, call the health service and ask what to do next.
