Video-based resources on breastfeeding

Breastmilk and breastfeeding are ideal for babies, but breastfeeding isn’t always easy. These resources are full of expert advice on breastfeeding basics, techniques for successful breastfeeding, breastfeeding positions and attachment, and common breastfeeding challenges. Experts also explain practical aspects of breastfeeding, like how to express and store breastmilk, how to tell whether babies are getting enough milk, and where to get support to keep going with breastfeeding.

More about our breastfeeding resources

Breastmilk and breastfeeding have many benefits for babies and mothers, but breastfeeding can take time and patience to learn, and new parents often need support.

These resources can help parents learn how to get started with breastfeeding using the baby-led attachment technique. Mother-led attachment is also explained and shown, as are a range of positions for successful and comfortable feeding, like cross-cradle hold, football hold and lying down. The resources can help with choosing positions and techniques to suit individual mothers and babies.

These resources also have expert answers to frequently asked questions like the following: how long should babies feed for? How often should babies feed? Should I wake my baby to feed? What about spitting up? How does diet affect breastfeeding? And how do I express and safely store breastmilk?

Many mothers experience challenges like too much milk, not enough milk, and pain and discomfort while feeding. In these resources, mothers can get practical, easy-to-use advice that can help them handle these challenges at home, so that they can feel positive about breastfeeding and keep going.

As these resources explain, it’s also good to know that most breastfeeding issues can be overcome with the right support. Parents can talk to a midwife, child and family health nurse or lactation consultant. They can also get help from an Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) counsellor by phoning the National Breastfeeding Helpline on 1800 686 268.
