Anxiety in your family: webinar course

Anxiety is more than just being worried – it's a mental health issue that can really affect our wellbeing and our quality of life. Both adults and children can suffer from anxiety, and other people's anxiety can also affect us.

If you or someone in your family – like your child – has anxiety, it helps to understand it and find ways to talk about it together. This gives you a great start for learning skills and strategies to manage anxiety.

You're invited to join this free, live webinar course on anxiety in your family. In these webinars, we'll help you:

  • understand anxiety
  • identify and talk about anxiety
  • communicate with children about anxiety
  • understand the links between parent and child anxiety
  • learn key skills for managing anxiety.

This webinar is recommended for parents and carers of children aged 0-16 years.

Anxiety in your family webinar course: session outline

There are four sessions in this webinar course. The sessions are held once a week on Tuesday nights, starting on 12 March 2019. Each session begins at 8 pm AEDT and runs for 40 minutes, followed by a 20-minute discussion. Please note the Session 1 date has shifted from the 5 March to 12 March 2019.

Session 1: introduction to understanding anxiety
Tuesday, 12 March 2019, 8 pm AEDT

  • what it means to have anxiety
  • how to spot anxiety in yourself and other people
  • what can help with anxiety
  • why language matters when you talk about anxiety.

Session 3: further strategies for managing anxiety
Tuesday, 26 March 2019, 8 pm AEDT

This webinar looks at:

  • more strategies to manage anxiety
  • emotional coaching as a key skill for managing anxiety.

Session 4: why managing anxiety can be hard, and what to do next
Tuesday, 2 April 2019, 8 pm AEDT

This webinar looks at:

  • common challenges when managing anxiety
  • steps to take when strategies aren’t working
  • sources of support
  • course review and what to do next.

All sessions are presented by Dr Meredith Rayner, psychologist with expertise in children’s and parents’ mental health difficulties.
