Story

After a period of peace between titans and humanity, Godzilla suddenly starts attacking research facilities across the globe. To the dismay of Madison Russell (Millie Bobby Brown), whose life Godzilla previously saved, the world appears to be preparing for war. With the help of her friend Josh (Julian Dennison), Madison decides to find out why Godzilla is behaving strangely. She contacts the elusive conspiracy theorist and amateur titan sleuth, Bernie (Brian Tyree Henry).

On the other side of the globe, Walter Simmons (Demián Bichir), a wealthy tech businessman, recruits Nathan Lind (Alexander Skarsgård), a disgraced theoretical physicist. Simmons wants Lind to locate a mysterious energy source that will allow them to defeat Godzilla. Believing King Kong can lead them to the source, Lind enlists Ilene Andrews (Rebecca Hall), a King Kong researcher, to help him. In doing so, Nathan unknowingly brings along the one person who can communicate with Kong, Jia (Kaylee Hottle), a young Skull Island native.

As a new threat looms, King Kong and Godzilla battle for the title of alpha titan, but they must ultimately learn to work together to save humanity and each other.

Themes

Science fiction; fantasy monsters; animal harm

Violence

Godzilla vs Kong has some violence. For example:

  • There’s action violence between Godzilla and King Kong throughout the movie. There’s also violence involving other titan characters and humans in aircraft. The violence includes biting, punching, kicking, throwing and attacking with a giant axe. Things are blown up with explosives, and Godzilla destroys things with his atomic breath.
  • Godzilla and King Kong destroy buildings, aircraft, ships, bridges, and other structures. People run, scream, fall from high places and get stepped on.
  • Flying monsters kill humans, generally off screen. There’s one instance of a character being visibly stepped on and crushed to death (this is brief and not gory).

Sexual references

Godzilla vs Kong has no sexual references.

Alcohol, drugs and other substances

Godzilla vs Kong shows some use of substances. For example:

  • Adults drink alcoholic spirits. They also talk about drinking.
  • Bernie offers Josh (who’s underage) an alcoholic spirit.

Nudity and sexual activity

Godzilla vs Kong has some sexual activity. For example, Nathan kisses Ilene on the cheek without her permission.
