Keep your baby healthy with breastmilk and health checks

Breastmilk is the natural food for your baby.

Feed your baby when they’re hungry. For newborn babies, this is usually every 2-3 hours, up to 8-12 times a day.

Take your baby for regular health checks.
Food and drink by age

Breastmilk or infant formula only.
No water before 6 months.

All foods should be soft. Start your baby on pureed or finely mashed food – add breastmilk or formula if you need to. Your baby can move on to roughly mashed food and chopped food. Your baby should have only breastmilk, infant formula or water to drink.

Share the family meal.
Feeding, health and hygiene

Feed babies and kids first. Watch babies and kids while they eat to prevent choking.

Wash hands often. Clean the kitchen to stop sickness.

Look after yourself too. Eat healthy food and rest.
