Story
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 is a sequel to the first movie in this series. It’s about Toula Portolakos (Nia Vardalos), who is now married to her one true love, Ian Miller (John Corbett). They have a teenage daughter, Paris (Elena Kampouris), who’s pushing the boundaries of Greek tradition as she grows up. Wanting to develop a stronger sense of her own personal identity, Paris is applying for colleges outside her hometown, which makes Toula quite stressed and anxious. Because they know that their daughter might soon leave to pursue her dreams, Toula and Ian are also working together to put the spark back in their marriage.
The story of their family takes place against the backdrop of yet another large-scale Greek wedding.

Ideas to discuss with your children
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 is acomedy sequel featuring the same charming Greek American family several years after the marriage of Toula and Ian. This new movie focuses on the relationship between parents Toula and Ian and their teenage daughter Paris. Because of the family’s strong Greek traditions, Paris struggles to become her own person, which often causes a lot of conflict with her over-involved family.
The movie highlights the supportive nature of family as well as the need for individuals to develop independence. Although members of the family often disagree with one another, they always have good intentions and try to support each other in making good decisions.
Although the movie is unlikely to disturb younger children, the themes and sexual references mean that it’s best suited to children over 12 years.
Values in this movie that you could reinforce with your children include the:
- importance of family
- rights of individuals to make their own decisions and life choices.
You could also talk with your children about cultural traditions and how these influence people’s lives, particularly in relation to gender roles and marriage.
