G'day Dave how are things your end? Well I am seperated and I have my son Kai for about 7-8 hours total a week. I am seperated from kai's mother. Katrina is a fantastic mother to Kai but I do wish that katrina pick another profession. I am about to go to my first mediation session for myself. I believe that I have 2 then the 3rd is with katrina and the mediator. I don't think that I am asking for to much but katrina seems to think that kai is too young to be staying over at dads on a saturday night.

Anyway Dave I will sign off for now. Take it easy and hopre to hear from you.

Cheers

Paddy

Hi Paddy,

go for as much custody as you can handle. I am about to get more than my job can cope with, so will be a full time single dad. My kids are 20 months and 3 years and stay with me from Friday night after work till Monday morning before work and 1 or both a couple of nights during the week.

We didnt do mediation as we still get along most of the time. 7-8 hours??? tell her its not enough. I would miss my kids terribly if thats all i got as i see them every day.

Please keep in touch and hopefully more guys will speak up.

Cheers Dave

hi guys

I'm currently going through my 2nd year of fatherhood apprenticeship.
My daughter is nearly 2 and everyday involves lots of smiles and crying(especially during the hours of 2 and 5 am atm).

But overall I'am having a ball watching her learn every second!

cheers

luke

Nice to hear from you Luke.

Isnt it the most wonderful thing watching a child learn. Being able to teach and guide them is an amazing feeling.

Cheers Dave

I'm a single dad, and doing what I can to try and potty train my 2 1/2 year old boy. He will tell his mom when he has to go, and tells the babysitter, but refuses to go for me. When he's at my house, he still has to be in diapers. It's very frustrating. Anyone else have this problem?

Hi John

dont stress too much about toilet training. Perseverence and encouragement will get you through. What worked for my daughter was a book to read on the toilet. She ended up asking to go too much, but that settled pretty quick.

Good Luck

Cheers Dave

Good evening gentlemen,

I'm very sorry to hear that some of you are not with your wife & not living together as a family. I only hope happiness for you.

OK The reason why I'm writing is because I wanted your opinion as a dad. When you were or still are a family, as a parents did you have as much responsibility for looking after your child as much as your wife did? ie: 50/50 responsibility or 80% mum & 20% dad.

Say if mum had child nearly all day and you came home to your family would you take responsibility from your wife or would you expect her to continue feed, bath & put child to sleep.

I hope this makes sense? Daddys out there I will value your honest opinion.

Thank you
Lisa

How it used to work for me when i was in a normal relationship.

Up at 6-6.30. Change nappies, feed kids all while getting ready for work. I did not mind this at all as i was about to leave my kids for 4 hours.

Home for lunch. Eat and put at least 1 child into bed. If both asleep before 12pm it was a relaxing lunch.

Home between 5-5.30.  Cook dinner or play with kids while partner cooked. Eat, bath kids, stories and bed by 7.00pm.

So, basically i would get 4 hours of interaction with my kids every work day. On days off i would do as much as i could and have nearly given up a 30yr surfing addiction.

Stay at home parents will always do more hours. I tried to give as much time off for my partner as she had to do most of the hard work. Bathing, feeding and reading to the kids for sleep time is the cream of child rearing, but a great break for the all day parent.

Hope this helps.

Cheers Dave.

( i know i said i wouldnt post again after the last lot of abuse, but i started this topic)

every MON, TUES, Fri, Sat, Sun(weekends no work )
I usually get my girl up( she gets me up) round 6
play a game
make breakfast
get her dressed
brush hair + teeth
go to work @8
home by 1-2pm
play some more or go to pool/park etc while wife works from home.
make dinner for family
bath/shower
play
books and bed.
so I'm pretty lucky I get to spend more time then most working dads get to spend with their kids on weekdays.
