Sonimum (29/11/2006) We live in Western Australia. Does anyone know of any playgroups/Father and Baby Groups that are available? ThanksG'day Sonimum. I don't normally respond to female posters in a male forum, however this time..... Why not get your husband on here. These forums are just the best I have found. Very accepting and tolerant. Now, to answer your query. Have a look at this web site http://www.happyfamiliesdownunder.com.au/Children's%20Services/playgroups.htm It might help. Here http://www.earlyyears.wa.gov.au/mumsDads_usefulInformation.cfm is another. I don't know what they are like. We here in Victoria have an organisation called Playgroups Victoria. They list all the playgroups in Victoria. We have our little girl in two. Stephanie, my wife, and I take it in turns to take Michele along. I do one week and Stephanie the next week. This way we both get to enjoy the children and see them grow. I am the only male who accompanies his children in the two we go to but that's ok. If the ladies are talking about "woman" stuff then I dissappear and leave them alone. I play with the kids. (some would say I am the biggedst kid). I sure hope your husband is able to find what he is looking for. My personal opinion is that playgroups are excellent for the child as well as allowing the stay at home parent the chance to socialise with others. Just one more little thingy. I am an ex-sandgroper. Lived in W.A until 5 years ago.
Stan, Stephanie's husband, Michele's (05/01/2004) dad; Catherine's (27/02/2007) dad!

I've finally pulled my finger out and managed to send out a few emails to get the dads who are in my group of (extended) mates together.
The first meeting, a Sunday afternoon where we could show of the kids in a local park, brought about all of one dad and son.
Next meeting is a Monday night at a local pub. This time, I have 3 starters and myself makes 4. I'll let you know how it goes...

Hi to the all the dads hope you are all doing well.
In regards to playgroups we tried to get a stay home dads gropu going last year
but only 1 dad turned up & he was only off for 6 months.
The group was going to based around Nth Parramatta, due to lack of intrest the group hasn't really got off the ground.
I have been at home now for 18 months & keen to catch up with other dads in the Parramatta area.
If anyone is intersted in starting a dads playgroup I still have access to the building please drop me a line if you are intested.
Have a great day

Next meeting is a Monday night at a local pub. This time, I have 3 starters and myself makes 4. I'll let you know how it goes... How's the ego on this guy... quoting himself!? Only had one starter at the pub. We had a good time though, and spoke about a few things, including some heavy father stuff, so that made it worth while. I found out the next day (message on my work phone) that one of the other starters had turned up 30 mins earlier. Bummer! Will try again next month or so I reckon...

baudman (7/03/2007) [quote]How's the ego on this guy... quoting himself!? Hey, we're male! We're supposed to have egos as big as Airs Rock! Also we are dads! That alone gives us liscense to brag about our kids and be otherwise obnoxious! Go for it!

It seems to be hard to get playgroups for dads going. Too few SAHDs, geographically spread etc..
Is there another way for dads at home to break the isolation?
Dads only chat rooms?
Online games where you can talk to each other while you play?
Any other ideas?

| Hey Guys, What about organising weekend walks around the city or botanic gardens or even local areas for guys in the same area? Exercise, bonding with your children and getting some bloke time in without the better half keeping tabs on you! LOL! I'm in the northern suburbs of Melbourne (City of Whittlesea), and will be looking to get a Dad's group running (once I'm a Dad that is! 33 days to go!:w00t . Feel free to contact me if you're in the area.

| I am doing a search for an organisation called Dads with Prams. It is a world wide organisation for full time dads. That is dads who are the primary care giver for their littlies. There was a newspaper article about them. Apparently one traveled from Australia to the UK on his own, with his 18 month old son. I found it! http://www.abc.net.au/newengland/stories/s1453971.htm I just hope I can post that web site in here. I am going to any way. Should the link get deleted from this post pleasse PM me and I will give it to you. This group is only for SAHD's. It excludes people like me who are working and not the primary care givers of their children. I can do even better than that. Look here: http://www.armidale.info/manwithpram.htm Have fun!

Hi all,
in response to lack of dads groups,i think the problem would have to more with the fact that alot of dads are not aware that there are groups for them,& most men don't know where to look & society at large can generally be fairly negative towards stay home dads so why should they try.
As a group that are aware of the problem shouldn't we become more active in the community & get the word out & try to work together to promote the fact that we are men & we stay at home to look after our children.
Have a great day
