hi all,

my name is amy im 27 and have 3 beautiful boys my oldest is 10 and i have 3 and a half yr old twins.

i started my twins in daycare at the start of the year, the had seperation difficulties but got over that in a couple of months but since they have started issues have risen according to their group teacher so if anyone has gone through  similar issues or has any info it would be greatly appreciated,im confussed and stressing out every day about them.

the issues, 1st it was they might have ocd because they like to play with water(turn taps on and off),however at home they are never unsupervised when it comes to washing hands ect,at daycare they are so are they just taking advantage of the freedom.

then it went from ocd to sensory issues, they like the feel of it, and to add to that ethan the oldest of the twins is abit of a clean freak,he has to change if he gets a small drop of wee on his undies or pants and does not like wearing dirty/wet clothes(eg-splash back from water, spillage of dring in small amounts) but im wondering if thats because of me,since they where babies ive changed clothes if they got messy ect and im a neat and organized freak.zac on the other hand has no problem at all with any of these issues.but they have only started to appear a few weeks ago.

my other big problem is the speech therapist called daycare to get info on how they are at school with their speech and so on and the teacher said they dont play with other kids, they play with each other but this has never been mentioned to me,they play with their cousins and friends of the family,so now the speech therapist has said that we should go and see a psychologicals, ive never heard of anyone taking 3 yr olds to see a.

to top things of they are extremley shy and it takes them a while to come around and be themselves infront of strangers.

doc says they are normal healthy 3 yr olds, only delay they have had is speech so we are waiting for appt with peadiatrition.

additional info...they are well behaved at daycare but are so naughty at home,we cant even take them to the shops without a big scene or 2 or 3.

any info advice would help heaps i dont know if they are over reacting or if im in denial

thanks heaps all =-)

Dear Amy,

Try not to worry at this stage, and go and see your Paediatrician at your next appointment. Ask for copies of reports re your twins to be provided to your Paed - helps with general assessment. Just put others' comments to the back of your mind and keep forging ahead.

A daycare employee cannot diagnose your children with OCD or anything else.

Twins often play exclusively with each other.

And yes there are many parents out there who have taken their young child to see a Psychologist.

We regularly see a Psychologist, Paediatrician, Dietician, Speech/Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Orthotist, and Physiotherapist for both of our sons because they are on the Autism spectrum. They did at one stage engage in lots of water play and still get upset at the tiniest drop of water on their clothes esp. hair, and will remove items and want to be changed immediately.

To help with behaviour generally, check out this website - Visual Aids For Learning (free visual aids):-

Best wishes.
