Hi,

I work for the Insight program on SBS TV.

http://www.sbs.com.au/insight

We're planning a program involving the kids of non-nuclear families.

The nuclear family is still seen as the norm in Australia.

But according to the Bureau of Statistics non-nuclear families are now the majority household type in Australia.

So we want to find out directly from young people what it's like growing up in a non-nuclear family.

That means young people who've grown up with same sex parents, a single parent, adopted or foster parents, or maybe you had a surrogate mother or a donor dad, or maybe you were raised in a commune by a wider group of people. Basically we want to hear from young people who’ve experienced any family situation that did not involve being raised by your biological mum and dad. Maybe you started out in a nuclear family but things changed for whatever reason.

We’ll be asking how you feel about your family up-bringing? What is great or not so great about it? Have you ever been bullied or discriminated against because of it? Do you prefer your family situation to the idea of the nuclear unit?

This show is going to be a parent free zone, in the studio we’ll be getting together only young people from non-nuclear families. We’re looking for people aged between 12 and 25.

If that’s you, we’d love to hear your story.

The program will be recorded in Sydney in mid March. SBS will fly guests from around the country to be involved, and we will also bring a parent or guardian along for younger guests.

Please feel free to circulate this to anyone you think might be interested, and don’t hesitate to call with any further questions.
