Good on you for starting up a group if none existed before this. I'm sure you will get lots of interested parents.

I suggest asking your hospital if you could put up a flyer? And maybe a little article or something in your local newspaper.

Best wishes in your endeavours.

PS Babybumblebee DVDs were brilliant for my youngest son with respect to his Global Development Delay so much so that he is now considered High Functioning and attends Prep in a mainstream school.

Hi Joya! I am interested in starting a group for mums or dads with children who are developmentally delayed who are in Perth. I have looked for one in Perth but haven't found any. I will be putting up some flyers in PMH (Princess Margaret Hospital), CDCs and Child Health Centres in North.

Do you live in WA? Would you be interested in coming to a group such as this? It will just be a group to help parents support each other and give some guidance if need be. This forum is great for help but it will be good to have people close by to talk to and get some insight. What do you think?

I hope you are able to get a support group going.  Maybe you could look for family support services & see if they can assist you in starting such a group.  Plus leave flyers with community health etc.

And peadiatrician offices, plus speech therapy & OT therapy places

Mum to 3 girls, 8 & 11 yrs NT, and 6yrs ASD - the little whirlwind!

Hi Allycat! You mentioned your son has GDD, how did you go with his toileting? Rohan will not poo in the potty, he still only wants to do it in his nappy. He will be turning 5 in August. I've been told by the OT from the CDC to just let him do it in his nappy and gradually let him sit in on the potty with it on and see how he goes.

Also in terms of his behaviour, his concentration level is low. He gets distracted easily. Is this typical of a child with developmental delay?

Dear qu33nb33, Hi. It's really wonderful but we are just starting to have some success with toilet training now. Youngest son has done a poop in the toilet twice in less than a week and is starting to do a couple of weewees too. I reward him with a sticker. I've got him wearing the largest size huggies pullups, you know the pj pants for boys?

If your child is still not toilet trained the day of his 5th birthday in August he is eligible for the Continence Aids Assistance Scheme (free nappies, rash cream, waterproof bedsheet, baby wipes). Please see your "...general practitioner, medical specialist, continence nurse, community nurse, physiotherapist or occupational therapist. ..."

What was of great assistance to us was borrowing "Tom's Toilet Triumph" from an incontinence nurse who came out to our house and gave us a brilliant three hour consultation. My little boy now says 'I did a poo just like Tom!'.

Aust Govt Bladder Bowel Health website - Continence Aids Assistance Scheme - being replaced by the Continence Aids Payment Scheme from 1 July 2010
http://www.bladderbowel.gov.au/furtherinfo/caas.htm

As far as I am aware, low concentration levels and the attention span have more to do with ADD. Ritalin10 is helping my son with this. He is now able to focus and learn just like the other kids in his Prep class and they don't know he is any different.

Hope I have been of help to you.

Best wishes.

I am interested in joining. Ryan is 5 yrs old and he has overall developmental delay. I did ask our LAC last year to have a support group for mums around this area (Innaloo), and we do get together once a month but this group is not specificly for developmental delay. It would be good to be able to share and exchange experience with mums that is going through the same things. Is it possible for me to get one of  the flayer please (PO Box 1223, West Leederville 6901), Thanks.

Hi qu33nb33, my son also have GDD and he turn 5 in Dec (lst yr). we've been doing the toilet training for some time now, some days he only use 2 pull ups and some days he will use up to 5 pull ups. Our OT says just keep continue doing with what we are doing, sometime it does take time for them to be toilet trained. Our toilet is full of thomas the tank engine pictures and also the toilet routine visual picture from DSC. Is the same deal with him at school some days is better than others. Guess we just have to be more patience with this particular training (that is what I've been told). It took us 1 year before he actually did something in the toilet and even that we have to actually take him to the toilet. take care qu33nb33.
