About Early Days

Early Days is an Australia-wide program of workshops for mothers, fathers and other family carers of children under the age of six who have an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or who are undergoing assessment.

An Early Days workshop has been developed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families who have a child with Autism or who think their child might have Autism and want to learn more about it.

The workshop provides mothers, fathers, aunties, uncles, grandparents and other family members with information and practical support for promoting the development of their child at home.

The Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care has consulted with the Early Days team to ensure the program includes and supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families of children with Autism.

How can Early Days help?

The Early Days workshop helps you learn about Autism and how you can support your child’s development in your family and community.

The workshop covers:

· Helping families understand Autism

· How you can promote your child’s development at home

· Local services and supports for families

· Answers to your questions about Autism

The Parenting Research Centre is the Early Days national coordinator. Early Days is funded by the Australian Government Department under the Helping Children with Autism package.

Extra special EAR CARE for our babies

Hi there,

I just took my 6.5 month old for his special ear check and it was all clear. Yippee. Speak to your health advisor to make sure you have your babies ears checked too as they have extra concern for middle ear problems in indigenous children.

We also got a lovely show bag from the indigenous health people with a cloth bag, cap and water bottle all carrying the red, yellow and black flag. Lovely.

Anyone else know of anything special we should look out for in our babies?
