I am a first time mother of a son with a few problems. He has been delayed developmentaly since about 1 yo. walked at 2 and still not talking much (1-2) words. His understanding is normal but his responsive output is lacking. He has recently started throwing some god awful tanties which include scratching biting screaming and fingers down the throat to spew. If i let him go he spews till his throat is scratched from his nails. if i give it attention he hurts me. i smack him he goes harder. idont know which way to go. It seems if you catch it early you can conrol the escalation but if you miss that opportunity it seems he goes into this zone where you cant stop him untill he literally wears himself out of hurts himself so bad the pain overtakes the tantie and he needs soothing. Ive been told this is normal and ive been told he is trying to vent these feelings or frustrations hes getting in other ways as he cant speak or communicate these feelings. Ive also been told this is abnormal and there is something wrong but no one can tell me what. i have found no help so any motherly advice would be great.
