As Executive Director of the Parenting Research Centre Warren Cann is responsible for a research and development program focused on building knowledge about the links between parenting and child outcomes and finding more effective ways of supporting parents.
Under Warren's leadership the Parenting Research Centre has grown into a nationally recognised resource for government, practitioners and professionals working with parents dealing with parenting support and education.
Current projects managed by the Parenting Research Centre include: the Raising Children Network website, a Government sponsored, fully interactive online resource providing parents with evidence-based information and advice on raising children; MyTime, a national program of local parent support groups for parents of children with a disability or chronic medical condition; Healthy Start, a national strategy for supporting parents with an intellectual disability; and Signposts Statewide, a Victorian statewide rollout of a program for parents of children with an intellectual disability.
Warren has a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from Melbourne University. His career has focused on encouraging and supporting parents in the critical task of raising their children, with a particular emphasis on working with parents experiencing significant challenges and adversity.
The father of four young children, Warren has more than 20 years experience working with families, training and supporting health and welfare professionals who work with families, and developing and implementing parenting support initiatives. He has worked with families of children with developmental delay, intellectual disability and severe behaviour problems. He is the author of numerous information resources for parents; and co-author of the ABCD parenting program for parents of young adolescents, and also C-Frame – an innovative practice framework for professionals working with parents.
Warren is a popular speaker, trainer and presenter, and is frequently called upon by the media to comment on parenting related matters.
