Social workers are university-trained professionals who help people find their way through the system of services and put them in touch with community resources and support networks.
They can provide counselling and work with individuals, families, groups, communities and organisations, and also help develop and implement social policy. Many social workers have jobs as case managers (linking clients with appropriate agencies and programs).
