Professor Ruth Webber is a founding director of the Quality of Life and Social Justice Research Centre. She has postgraduate qualifications in education, psychology and sociology. In 1997 she was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship, which enabled her to study fieldwork education in the UK, USA and Canada. Her recent research has focused on youth spirituality, intellectual disability and ageing, families, community recovery, youth violence, substance abuse, and social policy. She has over 60 publications in DEST-recognised journals, books or book chapters in addition to many reports and other publications.

Over the past seven years, she has received five ARC Linkage grants and was part of a successful ARC Network grant (ARACY). Since 2003 she has with colleagues conducted many contract research projects in including: The Spirit of Generation Y: Young People's Worldviews, Values, Commitments and Spiritual Experiences (2003 - 2007), Pilgrims Progress 2008 – A World Youth Day Research Project (2007-2009), Community Outreach at Australian Catholic University (2008-09) and Engagement of Youth in Churches (2006-7) and Third Stream Activities and Community Outreach at Australian Catholic University (2008-09). 

At present she is the principal researcher on the Catholic Bushfire Community Recovery Response (2009‐2012) in partnership with Catholic Social Services Victoria, Centacare Gippsland, Centacare Melbourne and Centacare Sandhurst.
