Home safety: fire, medicine and water

Install a smoke detector; lock up poisons; keep an eye on your child around water.
  • Install smoke detectors and safety switches. Have hot water delivered to bathroom taps at 50ºC maximum.
  • Securely store and safely use matches and lighters, medicines and household poisons like oils and cleaning products.
  • Stay within arm’s reach and sight of young children in the bath at all times and when kids are near any water.

Door, window and stair safety

Install safety glass; keep children safe around windows; use safety gates
  • Install safety glass in windows and doors or apply shatter-resistant film to windows and doors of older homes. Put stickers on glass at eye level.
  • Lock windows. Move chairs and other things away from windows. Mount TVs on walls or place them so they can’t fall on your child.
  • Put safety gates at the top and bottom of stairs and at the entrances to balconies.

Household hazards

Keep sharp or small items out of reach; keep blind and curtain cords short; keep emergency contact numbers near your phone
  • Store sharp items out of children’s reach. Watch out for small objects your child could swallow or stick into his nose, ears or eyes.
  • Prevent strangulation by keeping chains and cords on blinds and curtains shorter than 5 cm.
  • Pin up emergency numbers and other useful safety contacts near the phone. Get more tips on making your home safe for your child.
