Professor Toumbourou is the Chair in Health Psychology within the School of Psychology, Deakin University, and an Honourary Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Adolescent Health, Murdoch Childrens Research Institute. He is an active researcher and social advocate in areas related to child and adolescent health promotion and the prevention of alcohol and drug problems.
Professor Toumbourou's research interests also include evaluation and the role of community, family and peer groups in adolescent health promotion. He teaches at postgraduate level, supervises higher level degree students and has published around 200 articles and 70 refereed journal articles. In 2009, Professor Toumbourou received the Award of Distinction from the College of Health Psychologists within the Australian Psychological Society.
