Professor Calache is Director Clinical Leadership, Education and Research at Dental Health Services Victoria and is a registered specialist in the field of paediatric dentistry. Over the period 1996-2004, Hanny was Senior Lecturer and Coordinator of the Diploma in Oral Health Therapy, School of Dental Science at The University of Melbourne. He has a Bachelor of Dental Science; completed a Masters of Dental Science Degree in Paediatric Dentistry in 1983, a Graduate Diploma in Health Administration from La Trobe University in 1988, and a Doctor of Public Health (DPH) Degree from the School of Population Health, The University of Melbourne in 2005.
Hanny’s research interests include health promotion, public health, and workforce development (with a special interest in paediatric and geriatric oral health and those with special needs). Hanny has worked in both private and public dental practice as a paediatric dentist, and also as a senior lecturer at the University of Melbourne. He has delivered many presentations at national and international conferences and has published a number of papers in refereed journals. He was awarded the IJ Marks and TC Adamson prize from the University of Melbourne in 2005 for his contribution in developing the Bachelor of Oral Health Curriculum at the School of Dental Science. In February 2006, Hanny was appointed Adjunct Professor in the School of Dentistry and Oral Health at La Trobe University.
