Soiling (encopresis)

 

Soiling, or encopresis as it is commonly called, refers to the involuntary passage of bowel movements into a place other than the toilet on a regular basis by children who are past the age of toilet training.

Since all children achieve bowel control at their own rate, such soiling is generally not considered a medical condition unless the child is at least four years of age.
