Dr Berthelsen is a Professor in the School of Early Childhood at Queensland University of Technology. She has professional qualifications in teaching and psychology. She has taught in primary and special education settings, as well as in services providing child and family counselling.
Current research projects focus on inclusive early childhood education and early intervention, parent involvement in children’s learning, and children’s transition to school.
Currently, Donna has research leadership roles in: Growing Up in Australia: The Longitudinal Study of Australian Children, funded by FaHCSIA; The Early Home Learning Study at the Parenting Research Centre, funded by the Victorian Government; The Transition to School for Young Children with Developmental Disabilities (ARC Discovery); and the Parents at Playgroup (ARC Linkage project with Playgroup Queensland). Her research informs family, and educational policy and practice.
