Dennis is an educational psychologist with extensive experience in the special needs/disabilities areas, including having taught and led teams involved in the initial training of regular and special educators, with expertise in communicative disorders, autism and other pervasive developmental disorders.

Dennis and his team have been involved in a number of large scale projects, such as designing and implementing a major multimillion-dollar accreditation program involving teacher training in special needs and inclusive education, including deaf and visual impairment, for the NSW Government. Dennis and his team also designed and implemented a program for the training of special education teachers from India (Train the Trainer model), funded by AUS-AID, as well as contributing strongly to the DEEWR Expert Advisory and Research Panel as Chair of both the Special Needs and Disability panels. He also directed the the DEEWR project: Portability of funding models for children with a disability, and the DEECD project, Assessing eligibility criteria applied to children with autism and severe behaviour disorders in Victoria.
