Child health nurses are registered nurses with tertiary qualifications in midwifery and maternal and child health.
They provide free support and information, usually through a local council, to families with children under six years of age. They offer guidance on things like breastfeeding and nutrition, parenting, behaviour and development, immunisations, family planning, and the health and wellbeing of you and your children.
When more specialised assistance is needed, child health nurses can make referrals to other health professionals or to services that can help you gain confidence as a parent.
