Alan is Emeritus Professor in the School of Health Sciences at RMIT University. Before retirement, he held positions of Head of the Department of Psychology and Disability Studies, and Head of the School of Health Sciences at RMIT University.
Alan has a long history of teaching in the fields of clinical, educational and developmental psychology. He has an extensive list of publications in the scientific literature, many of which are related to parenting. Much of his research focused on assisting families of children with disabilities to manage difficult behaviour of those children.
Alan was the inaugural chair of the Board of Management of the Parenting Research Centre, a position he held for 10 years.
During his career, Alan was awarded the Australasian Research Prize of the Australasian Society for the Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disability on three occasions.
